Most backpacking tents are pretty confined. But the Clearwing’s clever pole geometry creates a 2 door, 2 vestibule fully freestanding backpacking tent that has tons of interior space. Hooped poles over the doors create vertical sidewalls and ample headroom. A full coverage, vented rainfly keeps the weather at bay – with upgraded waterproofing that means the fabric is now rated at 3,000mm hydrostatic head to fend off the worst downpours. Oh, and it’s now green – a much better colour for stealthy wild camps. The inner has also been redesigned with a 70:30 fabric to mesh ratio for added warmth in cooler conditions without sacrificing airflow and moisture management. Lastly, a hubless pole system allows the Clearwing to pack down small into its burrito bag for quick getaways
Maybe it’s no wonder that the state of California has been the cradle for so many great American outdoor brands. Sierra Designs is a case in point. California was the natural place for the brand’s co-founders, a pair of young outdoor aficionados named George Marks and Bob Swanson, to set up shop.
They first met in late 1963 at while working at The Ski Hut in Berkeley, CA. Two years later, Sierra Designs was born. Today, the brand continues to create outdoor equipment and apparel that is functional, beautiful, and most importantly, attainable, enabling outdoor lovers throughout the USA and beyond to hit the trail and fill their souls with a sense of wanderlust.
